Part of the Faculty of Mathematics, Computing and Technology, the Department comprises over 30 central and 15 regional academic staff, together with a number of research fellows, visiting researchers and both full- and part-time research students.

The Department is committed to research excellence, with regular seminars and events, including a seminar series in statistics. The main research areas are analysis, combinatorics, history of mathematics, mathematical physics, mathematics education and statistics.
